Hunt for gunman at large after Geelong shooting

Police are hunting for a man seen fleeing the scene of a suspected “targeted” shooting in Victoria’s southwest.

Emergency services were called to Freesia Court in the Geelong suburb of Whittington late Wednesday afternoon after reports a man had been shot.

A 55-year-old man was found injured at the scene, reported to be a neck wound, and rushed to Geelong hospital where the injury was deemed to be non-life-threatening.

On Thursday, a hospital spokesperson confirmed the Whittington man remained in a stable condition.

Armed crime squad detectives are investigating the alleged shooting and have appealed for public assistance identifying a man who was seen leaving the address shortly after 5.40pm.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined; however, police believe this was a targeted attack and parties involved are known to each other,” a police spokeswoman said.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”

Crime Stoppers can be reached on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
